There are a number of support groups operating on the far north coast which provide information, support and social outings for Grand-carers and their grandchildren.

Currently we have monthly gatherings in

Tweed Heads - First Tuesday of each month

Lismore - Second Friday of the month

Ballina  - second Tuesday

In the Grafton area there is an excellent support group which has been running for some years. It is called the Clarence Valley Kindred Children's Carers Support Group. Contacts are:

Margaret   6649 7057

Joanne 6644 9248

Most of our get togethers are at 10 in the morning and we usually have morning tea, an informal  chat about issues that concern us, and talk about great activities we can plan for us to do outside school hours with the kids along too. We cover topics of special interest in response to the interest of group members. There is no joining fee, no committees, and no expectation that anyone has to take on responsibilities through being part of these groups.

Currently Grand-carers have expressed an interest in learning more about;

  •  dealing with challenging behaviours
  •  dealing with grief and loss
  •  computers and monitoring what children are doing on the internet,
  •  great activties that don't involve televison, computers, or
     other technology,
  •  craft and art activities for grandcarers, and also
  •  ideas for art, craft, games, hobbies and outdoor activities
     with children.
